This railroad expanded west and in 1883, connected with its eastward counterpart which completed the Sunset Route from Los Angeles to New Orleans.

In 1890, two real estate investors from Houston purchased 4 square miles of land on the BBB&C route advertising the property as “a land of genial sunshine and eternal summer.” Three years later W.R. McElroy purchased 80 acres in the same vicinity naming this “Missouri City.”
